Transcendence into Descent is a multidisciplinary performance art piece that combines visual and auditory elements to explore the concept of divine psychosis, inspired by Philip K. Dick’s VALIS. The work, directed and designed by Ziaire Trinidad Sherman, weaves together interactive visual systems and dynamic soundscapes to create an immersive narrative journey.

Sherman utilized Max/MSP and Jitter to craft interactive visual systems that not only highlighted the performers but also drove the story's progression. The auditory dimension was developed in collaboration with a Berklee alumnus and a Berklee Global Jazz student, resulting in a rich sonic world that complemented the visuals and underscored the emotional themes.

The piece was performed for notable figures including Michael Bierylo, Tod Machover, and the United States Secretary of Music Education, Dr. Miguel A. Cardona. Tod Machover described the work as “well thought out with a clear vision”, reflecting its conceptual strength and creative execution.

Transcendence into Descent exemplifies Sherman’s ability to fuse cutting-edge technology with artistic storytelling, offering audiences a thought-provoking and sensory-rich experience
